The Process
Five steps, start to arrival.
The order matters more than the speed. Ask for your recommendations first, because they depend on other people; everything else is in your own hands.

Open your application
Your name and email address are enough to open it. That alone creates your application — you can stop there and come back later, and we know how to reach you if you have questions.

Gather your documents
Certified transcripts, two essays, and at least two letters of recommendation. The full list is below; request the letters and transcripts as early as you can.

Complete and submit
Fill in the rest of the online application at your own pace — progress saves automatically and your emailed link brings you back to where you stopped. Submit by 1 July.

The admissions committee decides
The committee meets regularly and chooses primarily on academic grounds. Because places each year are limited, an early complete application genuinely helps.

Visa, housing, arrival
If you need a residence permit, begin before 1 March — approval can take six months. Our colleagues walk you through the Austrian procedure.

Two Things to Check Early
English, and your right to stay.
English
All teaching is in English. If you have not completed at least two years in an English-speaking environment, or at a school where English was the main language of instruction, plan for a standardised test.
The student handbook names TOEFL iBT 75 or an equivalent score. Book the test early — results take time to reach us.
Visa & residence permit
If you must apply for your residence permit from your home country, start before 1 March: approval can take up to six months.
US citizens may enter the EU for three months without a visa and apply for the residence permit after arriving in Austria. Either way, our colleagues guide you through the procedure — write to admissions@iti.ac.at.
Costs
Money should not be the reason you do not apply.
Tuition, room and board, and the scholarships and financial aid that exist to close the gap are all set out on their own page. Apply first; the aid conversation follows the admission.

Can I start the application before my documents are ready?
Yes, and we recommend it. Opening the application takes a minute and costs nothing; you upload documents as they arrive.
What if I lose the link to my application?
Write to admissions@iti.ac.at from the address you applied with and we will send it again.
How do my referees send their letters?
Directly to us, not through you. Name them in the application and they receive the request; two are required and up to four are welcome.
Which essay do I write?
Applicants to the BA, STB, STL and STD write on the passage from St. Athanasius’s On the Incarnation. Applicants to the MMF write on the passage from Familiaris Consortio. Both passages are in the online application, and everyone also writes the essay of motivation.
What happens after I submit?
The admissions committee meets regularly and decides primarily on academic grounds. You hear from us by email; there is no fixed announcement date, which is why applying early helps.
Can I apply after 1 July?
Write to us before you assume the answer is no. Places each year are limited and the deadline is real, but late applications are looked at when there is still room.
My transcripts are not in English or German.
Documents in a Slavic language must be accompanied by a translation into English or German. If your documents are in another language, ask us before paying for a translation.
